Purpose of the Tacoma Chess Club

The Tacoma Chess Club was founded in 1891. In over 110 years the club has moved many times, but its members have continued to meet for the same reasons: camaraderie, competition, and chess. Currently the club meets Wednesdays and Fridays, 7:15PM until closing, in downtown Tacoma. The club also hosts rated tournaments at least bi-monthly, in harmony with other local and regional clubs' tournament schedules.

The purpose of this web page is to keep visitors informed of the current events and activities of the club. Accordingly, it will be periodically updated. For international, national, and other regional chess events, please see the Favorites page and click the appropriate links.

Current Events

Actual chess games from the most recent club tournaments have been added to the web site. You may check them out from Games. Club news is updated via the Tacoma Chess Times, which is now found on the History page, right-hand column.

The club now has a scholastic-rated event the first Sunday of every month. It is called the Sunday Quad and has an Open Section for adults and a Scholastic Section for children and youth. In the event there are not enough for each section, the sections are combined. See the Calendar for more information about this and other events.

For general information about the club, please see our flyer. Please complete an application and bring it in to join the club.
